Senior photos are such a special milestone, but they can also come with a lot of nerves, expectations, and pressure. Over the years, I’ve worked with so many seniors, and there are a few things I find myself saying over and over again. So if I could sit down with every senior before their session, here’s what I’d want you to know.
1. Choosing the right senior photographer truly matters
Of course you should love a photographer’s work — that's the first thing to look for. But just as important is choosing someone you feel comfortable with, someone you trust, and someone you can be yourself around.
When you feel connected to your photographer and trust their vision, it shows in your photos. Your smile feels more natural, your body language relaxes, and you look like the most confident version of yourself. Senior photos aren’t just about how they turn out — they’re about how you feel while taking them.
2. Feeling nervous before your senior photo session is completely normal
If you’re nervous about your senior photos, you’re not alone. Almost every senior tells me they feel nervous before their session and that is totally okay!! Nerves don’t mean you’re awkward or that your photos won’t turn out. The awkward nerves will fade within the first few minutes once you realize you’re being guided, encouraged, and supported the entire time. You don’t have to show up feeling confident — that comes as we go. I'll be there to be your biggest hype girl the entire time!
3. Customize your photos so they feel like you
Your senior photos should reflect you, not just what’s trending at the moment. Bringing meaningful props, choosing special locations that matter to you, or styling your session around your personality and hobbies makes such a difference. It'll easily make your senior pictures unique to you!
Whether that’s a favorite spot, something that represents a hobby, or just a vibe that feels like you — those personal touches are what make your photos timeless. You don’t have to do exactly what everyone else is doing for your photos to be beautiful.
4. You don’t need to know how to pose. That’s literally my job
This is a big one. You do not need to know how to pose, what to do with your hands, or how to stand perfectly. That’s not something you need to prepare for. My job is to guide you every step of the way — from posing and movement to little adjustments that make a big difference. The goal is for your photos to look natural and effortless, not stiff or forced. All you need to do is show up and trust the process.
5. The experience matters just as much as the photos
Senior photos should feel fun, relaxed, and memorable — not rushed or stressful. The experience itself plays a huge role in how your photos turn out.
From planning and styling to the session day and beyond, I focus on creating an experience that feels exciting and supportive. And for my seniors who want even more connection and fun beyond their individual session, that’s where Club CWP comes in — giving seniors opportunities to be part of styled shoots, social events, and a community that makes senior year feel even more special.
Because at the end of the day, this is more than just photos. It’s about celebrating who you are in this season of life and enjoying every part of the experience along the way.
